Domestic violence against women is a pervasive and expanding issue. It manifests itself in a variety&#13;
of ways, takes many forms, and occurs in all societies. Many studies were conducted on the issue,&#13;
focusing only on the magnitudes and prevalence; it usually fails to contribute much to the&#13;
understanding of the subject matter because the issue of domestic abuse is deeply rooted within the&#13;
social structure that needs deep investigation. This study was conducted to describe the lived&#13;
experiences of women victims of domestic violence through a qualitative approach with a&#13;
phenomenological research design by using in-depth interviews, key informant interviews, and case&#13;
stories as data collection methods. An in-depth interview was carried out with ten women who were&#13;
victims of domestic violence; three key informants’ and one case story were appropriate for the&#13;
study. The collected data were analyzed by phenomenological thematic analysis. The findings of the&#13;
study show that in the study area women suffered a great deal from a variety of acts of domestic&#13;
violence because of patriarchal attitudes, societal norms of society, the practice of polygyny&#13;
marriage, economic factors, and jealousy of their husbands. The results of the study also state that&#13;
hitting women with an object, slapping or kicking with the leg, intimidation, insulting, marital rape,&#13;
and denial of access to and use of resources are among the various types of domestic violence that&#13;
affect women physically, psychologically, and economically. As the results of the study revealed,&#13;
women use different mechanisms to overcome the act of domestic violence they experience and the&#13;
associated problems, like keeping silent, reporting, asking for support, leaving the home, and&#13;
praying to God. Therefore, it is recommended that government, non-governmental organizations,&#13;
and religious institutions coordinately need to give due attention and remedial actions and&#13;
programs to overcome the problem of domestic abuse committed against women

<title>CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF DIVORCE ON DIVORCED WOMEN: THE CASE OF SHENKOR WOREDA, HARAR TOWN. ETHIOPIA</title>

<description>CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF DIVORCE ON DIVORCED WOMEN: THE CASE OF SHENKOR WOREDA, HARAR TOWN. ETHIOPIA
Ahmed Abdurahman
The main objective of the study was to investigate the causes and consequences of divorce on divorced women at Shenkor woreda, Harar town. The researcher used qualitative research approach by applying the phenomenology design and used purposive sampling method for the selection of study participants by using inclusion criteria such as being divorced women, who had living with children and being separated for one year and above. Data has been gathered through face-to-face in-depth interview from nine divorced women and analyzed by thematic analysis. The study identified the lack of communication, extra marital affairs, abusive relationship and financial disagreement as a main cause of divorce in the study area. Divorce is not only the loss of marital relationship and social isolation rather it has brought serious problems on divorced women’s life in terms of social and economic aspects. The most serious economic consequences of divorce on divorced women are feminization of poverty. Divorce exaggerates the already inequality between the obligation of a husband and wife. Upon divorce, women usually get physical custody of the children which cut short to their own job and financial autonomy and financial limitation that resulted from income decline. Because of divorce, divorced women share the consequences of social discrimination from their family, friends and other social life. In general, the study indicates that divorce has multi-facet causes that result to social and economic consequences which enforce divorced women to lead difficult life. Thus, Responsible bodies from government organization like the women, children and youth affairs office, women association, health office, disaster risk management office, micro and small enterprise and NGO need to reduce the negative consequences of divorce on divorced women in various mechanisms: (1) creating employment opportunity, (2) offering saving and credit services, (3) providing social security support like safety net program, (4) providing support for highly vulnerable children, and (5)giving training on how to generate income after divorce. The study underlined the need for effective campaigning to change the gender norm, gender-based division of labor, the gender inequality attitudes and the subordination position of women in the society.

Today, the number of women in positions of leadership is increasing. Even though this is the &#13;
case, women leaders encounter significant challenges during their leadership journey. The&#13;
general objective of this study was to assess the challenges and opportunities of women in &#13;
leadership positions in public sectors. Mixed research method with explanatory-sequential&#13;
mixed research design was employed for data collection and data analysis. The data collected &#13;
by questionnaires and interview for selected public sectors head office and employees to &#13;
explain the challenges and opportunities of women in leadership position. Consequently, &#13;
probability and non-probability sampling techniques were used to selects the respondents and &#13;
to make discussants the researches. Selected data analyzed by descriptive statistics. The result&#13;
showed that women faced socio-cultural challenges (conflict between work and family &#13;
responsibilities and lack of family support) with mean value 4.06 and 3.86 respectively.&#13;
Organizational challenges(a lack of female role models, an uncomfortable working &#13;
environment, gender-based discrimination, lack of support, absence of leadership trainings, &#13;
absence of childcare centers, a lack of organizational networks) with mean values &gt;3.5, and&#13;
leadership related challenges(inflexible working hours, stress and unsatisfactory pay) with &#13;
mean values &gt;3.5 were the major determinants influencing women leaders' career &#13;
progression. The study also identified significant opportunities and supports for overcoming &#13;
those challenges. The opportunities include mentoring and coaching, training and networking &#13;
opportunities, affirmative action, maternal leave, and family support. The study concludes that &#13;
women in leadership positions faced a number of challenges, as well as limited opportunities &#13;
that targeted women in the study area. Hence, the government should pay attention to them &#13;
and develop initiatives such as family-friendly laws to assist women in overcoming their &#13;
challenges.

<title>ASSESSING THE EFFECTS OF READING ENGLISH HOMEWORK ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION: THE CASE OF GRADE 9 AT GEDO HIGH SCHOOL WEST SHOA ZONE</title>
<link>http://ir.haramaya.edu.et//hru/handle/123456789/4757</link>
<description>ASSESSING THE EFFECTS OF READING ENGLISH HOMEWORK ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION: THE CASE OF GRADE 9 AT GEDO HIGH SCHOOL WEST SHOA ZONE
Hordofa, Alemayehu(MSc); Taddesse, Adinew (PhD); Getachew, Alemayehu (PhD)
The study was conducted to determine if reading English homework had effects on &#13;
students’ reading comprehension. The research design was an experimental. The subjects &#13;
were grade 9 students at Gedo High School. But the researcher was teaching grade 9Aand &#13;
9B students only. So, grade 9th&#13;
‘A’ and 9th ‘B’ students were participants of the study. The &#13;
experimental design also needs small number of participants. Grade 9th A students were&#13;
assigned as experimental group while grade 9th ‘B’ students were assigned as control &#13;
group purposively. Pre-test, post-test and post interview were used as tools for data &#13;
collection. First, both groups were administered pre-test. Then, both the experimental &#13;
group students and control groups were taught reading lessons. But the researcher &#13;
assigned reading English homework assignments to only experimental group students. &#13;
After the experimental group students were treated with reading English homework &#13;
assignments, the ten sampled experimental group students were interviewed their views &#13;
about the reading English homework assignments they were assigned. Finally, both &#13;
groups were administered post-test. Data were analyzed by comparing their scores. &#13;
Hence, the findings shows that there were no difference between the scores of &#13;
experimental and control groups in pre-test while there was a significant differences in&#13;
scores of the experimental and control group students in post-test. The experimental &#13;
group achieved better scores in post-test than the control group. This may be due to the &#13;
reading English homework assignments were assigned them and follow up discussion was&#13;
continuously made. Thus, the researcher recommended the teachers to assign reading&#13;
English homework assignments and do follow up discussions continuously to improve the &#13;
students’ reading comprehension achievements.
