Abstract:
The binary systems of Ag3PO4/ZnO anddoped Ag - Ag3PO4/ZnOnanocomposites were
synthesized by a co-precipitation method using aqueous solutions of zinc chloride ( ZnCl2)
,silver nitrate (AgNO3)and dipotassiumhydrogen phosphate (K2HPO4)as precursors or starting
materials. The crystal structures, crystallite sizes, morphology, and compositions of the
composites were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Electron Microscopy (SEM), and
Energy DespersiveX-ray (EDX) spectroscopic techniques. In this work, theantimicrobial activity
was evaluated considering Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Aspergillusniger.
Based on the results obtained, it can be stated that these materials could be effective biocides
especially towards bacteria when prepared at smaller size.
