Abstract:
This study was conducted with the objectives of Challenges in teaching handball
Practical Class in some selected preparatory Schools in Bale zone Oromia regional
state. Four basic questions were raised to achieve the objectives of the study. To
answer those basic research questions, descriptive survey research method and both
qualitative and quantitative approaches were used to analyze the information that
was collected using different instruments from different sources. The quantitative
data obtained from questionnaires were analyzed and interpreted by using
percentage and frequency. On the other hand, the qualitative data obtained from
interview and observation was interpreted by words. The study was conducted on
three governmental preparatory schools. To achieve the objectives of the study 6
school Principals and 6 PE teachers were selected based on their availability. And
also 337 students wereselected through simple random sampling technique from the
total number of 2200 students. The study found are lack of material and facilities,
lack of qualified handball coach, lack or absence of playground, lack of attention,
very low level of communication among PE, lack of competition in the school, large
class size and for further improvement of teaching effectiveness those challenges
must be avoid and suggested as potential solutions to the proper teaching of school
handball. Therefore, based on the findings of the study, it is recommended to allow
students to participate in handball activity with the help of PE teachers and
administration of the school should work hand to hand in order to solve the problems
and It is also recommended that the school facilities and materials should be fulfilled
to enhance participation with handball.
