Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to find out Factors Affecting the Participation of Female
Students in Football Game of Tagel General Secondary and Preparatory School in Simada
Woreda, South Gondar Zone, Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia. In this research, descriptive
research design was used with both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Thus, 1
school director, 1 sport and entertainment club coordinator and 8 PE teachers of the target
school were comprehensively taken as source of data along with 120 students who were
selected in stratified random sampling technique out of 1202 students. To collect the required
data for the study, questionnaires, interviews and observations were used as an instrument.
Hence, the result showed that absence of finance and facility support, females inter-school
competition, regular skill development programs, safe and sufficient training field, female
student football club in the school were the major factors. And also family, society, culture
and religion were an other obstacles. Most participants’ attitude towards football was nice.
Teachers, sport club and school directors’ role on females football participation was too less.
Availability of materials and facilities in the school were also less. Finally, based on the
findings of the study, it is recommended that the school is expected to maintain attention for
sport programs by providing necessary supports and /or fulfilling materials. Physical
education teachers and sport club could have worked hard to encourage females to continue
to take part. The Students also expected to have a desire to train and give emphasis for sport
activities.
