Abstract:
The back ground of the study describes the meaning and importance of physical education, and the attempts of the researcher to investigate ”practice and challenges of physical
education teachers’ in teaching learning process in some selected preparatory schools of
bole sub-city Addis Abeba.Three basic questions were raised to achieve the objectives of the
study. To answer those basic research questions, descriptive survey research design was
employed. The study was conducted on two preparatory schools. To achieve the objectives of
this study random sampling technique were used, students were selected from400, 40
students from bole preparatory and from 400, 40 students from beshalle preparatory in
general 80students were selected by using Seliger and Shohamy, 4school principal and 14
physical education teachers were selected purposively from two schools. In- depth
interviews with school principal and observations for teachers,as well students and teachers
questionnaires. The questionnaire was analyzed percentage, frequency and table. The major
finding of this study shown that the problem of teachers that to tech physical education, most
of the teachers not wear appropriate cloth, inadequate knowledge, lack of interest to teach
PE, did not a good role model in ethical and physical fitness,poor preparations and usage of
lesson plan, less commitment, students interest to learn PE,shortage of facilities,allotted time and non of comfortable play ground,weak availability of materials in PE sessions, and less
punctuality to inter the class. The schools principals did not full-fill to provide some
necessary materials and equipment's by mobilizing the stakeholder. The researcher were
recommended that all PE teachers make properly weekly lesson plane. should be a role
model for students by wearing sport close, have in personal ethics ,have good physical
fitness and respect a class time. sport department has to plan in advance to fulfill easily
made & risk free materials to prepare from locally
