dc.description.abstract Physical Education one of the disciplines that enables individuals and societies to make all round participation in the development process by acquainting them with knowledge, ability, skills and attitudes. The general objective of the study is to analyze and describe the practice and challenges of the teaching learning process of physical education. This study utilized a descriptive survey design and stratified random sampling, purposive and available sampling technique. The study was carried out in Addisu secondary and preparatory school of Diredawa administration, in shenile (09) Keble. The principals of the school was interviewed; two (2) school directors where as two (2) PE teachers and sixteen (60) students of the school filled a questionnaire. Observation checklist was also used by researcher during the study. The results were presented using frequency or respondents’ table. The data was analyzed by using both quantitatively and qualitatively Accordingly the research revealed the following results that the major challenge in practice of teaching and learning of PE was the negative attitude and lack of interest of PE teachers and students towards teaching and learning process of PE and lack of enough facilities that could facilitate learning process. The study concluded those PE teachers, the school directors including Diredawa Education Bureau, students, and student’s parents especially the school neighbourhood’s residents’ or communities should collaborate and create an awareness and share information on how to improve and strengthen the delivery of PE programs in Adissu secondary and preparatory school. The study recommended the school directors should be aware of the challenges facing the PE teachers and take appropriate measures to address them and Moe should evaluate the curriculum of PE subject, increase the number of periods per week and include PE subject in metric exam in order to increase the participation of students and PE teachers interest in PE department. en_US
