Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to investigate the challenges in teaching physical
education practical class: the case of some selected preparatory school, west
Gojjam Amhara Regional state. The study include 7 preparatory school, 21 school
principals, 61physical education teachers and 383grade 12 students.. From this
sample212 are female and 171 are male students. This sample is taken by slovins
formula .Descriptive survey study was used to carry out this research and three
instruments such as questionnaire, interview and observation check list were used to
gather the data. The study was carried out with descriptive sampling method and
both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used. Questionnaire, interview
and observation check list was analyzed by using percentages and tabulation.
Interestingly the study pointed out that challenges on lack of students interest, lack of
administrative support, lack of applying training principles in practical class, lack of
demonstrations skill, shortage of teaching materials and lack of using lesson plan are
challenges in teaching physical education practical class the case of some selected
preparatory school,west Gojjam, Amhara Regional state. Some of the basic advice
the teacher may take short and long term performance improvement courses, they
may be a linked relationship between teacher, students and school principals, and
teacher may give motivation toward PE practical class and no need to continue
practical class without daily lesson plan.
