Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to assess the application status of active learning
methods in physical education class in some selected secondary schools of East Hararghe
zone, Kombolcha woreda in Oromia Regional State. In order to meet the objectives of the
study descriptive survey research method was employed. There are three secondary
schools and one preparatory school in this woreda. To achieve these three secondary
schools were selected as study area through availability sampling technique. The
researcher incorporated 140 male and 62 female students, 3 PE teachers and 3 school
directors were primary sources of data. Regarding sampling technique, students were
selected from each sample school by using simple random sampling technique. Physical
education teachers and school directors were selected on the bases of availability
sampling technique. The research methodology employed in the study was a descriptive
survey. Observation, interviews and questionnaire were the major data gathering tools
used in the study. Regarding analyzed data the researcher used table and Percentage.
Interview data analyzed through narrative form. The results of the study revealed that
based on the findings, conclusions were made and recommended PE teachers should use
different methods of teaching, motivate and encourage students. Finally, School directors
and community together should strive to fulfill instructional materials and facilities,
creating awareness on school community and students.
