| dc.description.abstract | The main objective of this study was to identify factors that impede the participation of female students in learning basketball in Some Selected Preparatory Schools, in West Gojjam Zone, Amhara Regional State. Samples were taken from grade 11th females students, from the total of 650 female students, 248 female students were selected by using simple random sampling technique. To get supplementary information for the study area 6 subject teachers by using available sampling techniques and 6 school principals selected purposefully. The study was carried out with descriptive survey method and both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used. The quantitative data obtained through questionnaire was analyzed and interpreted by using frequency and percentages. On the other hand, the data found from interview and observations were analyzed qualitatively using narrative descriptive method. The finding indicated that the performance of the teachers’ ability to demonstrate during the lesson was poor; lack of adequate material and facilities also affected the females’ need of participation. Family’s motivations to encourage female students’ to attend basketball learning regularly were low. Physical education teachers’, encouragement, initiation to teach basketball, interactions with their students were not in the admiring level. It was concluded that the participation of female students with basketball lesson as subject matter were highly affected by the school with shortage of facilities and equipment, attitude of female student, teachers, families and uncomfortable environment of the school. Therefore, based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that to allow female students to participate in basketball learning physical education teachers, families, and school administrations must work cooperatively. Additionally, the school administration should be full filling the necessary materials, equipments and facilities for basketball learning. | en_US |
