Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to identify and assess students’ behavior during physical
education classes in Babo Gaya Preparatory school Oromia Regional state. And try suggest
some possible solution to minimize the students’ misbehavior in physical education classes.
The researcher used three basic questions to achieve the objectives of the study. To answer
these basic research questions, descriptive survey approach research method was employed.
The total numbers of students in Babo Gaya preparatory school from grade 11th
-12th
were
350. From the total population, 25% as (Van Delan D,E,(1979), as stated that from the total
population 10%-20% is recommended, 46 male and 42 female totally 88 respondents were
selected as a sample using stratified method, one (1) PE teacher and a school principal
selected as sample. Totally 90 respondents were selected as a sample. The methodological
approach selected for the study was descriptive approach both qualitatively and
quantitatively. The instruments used to collect the data were questionnaire; interview and
observation. The data gathered from the respondents were presented using tables and
analyzed by using SPSS version 16 using descriptive statistics like mean (M), standard
deviation (SD), standard error (SE) and frequency and percentiles. The results are organized
and discussed from analysis of primary and secondary data. Accordingly, the study revealed
the following results: Learning time is wasted most of the time in the theoretical and practical
physical education lesson due to the wrong behavior. There is a gap in the PE teacher
management skills to control the students, in theoretical and practical lesson. As the results of
the study show the various reasons for the occurrence of misbehavior in the study area were
peer pressure, the negative attitude reflected by the family and by students towards physical
education results lack of interest by students, teacher’s less attractive method of teaching and
teacher’s lack of effective management skills of students. The researcher result recommended
that awareness should be given to misbehavior students about the importance of PE in order
to develop positive attitude and perception towards the subject
