Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of selected resistance training on health
related physical fitness variables of first Year female Sport Science Students in the case of
Wollo University Dessie Campus, true experimental (pre -posttest) with control group
research method was employed to investigate the problem. To achieve this purpose of the
study all 36 female students were purposively selected from first Year Sport Science
department as a subject and their age were between 18-22 years. They were assigned into two
groups, experimental (18) and control group (18). Experimental group participated in
resistance training workouts 3 days/week for 12 weeks. The parameters selected for the study
were cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and
body composition. Pre-posttest were conducted for all 36 subjects on all health related
physical fitness variables and the score were recorded. Data those collected from health
related physical fitness variables measurements were analyzed through descriptive statistics
(mean ± SD) and paired sample T test (MD, SD mean and significance levels) and
independent t- test to analyze and compare the statistical (mean) difference between the
results of control and experimental group. The experimental group pre and posttest mean
result for health related physical fitness variables were (muscular endurance
21.333±5.224and 31.556±5.731, muscular strength 1.272± 0.139 and 1.609±0.166, body
composition 21.866± 7.338 and 19.844±7.767 and flexibility 32.500 ± 3.485 and
33.000±3.217).The present study showed that resistance training has significance effects on
all health related physical fitness variables except cardiovascular endurance for experimental
group than control group. Based on the finding the researcher recommended that, It is quite
clear that further research is necessary in the area of the effects of resistance training
on health related physical fitness components. Further, not only in students but also in other
sport event athletes.
