Abstract:
Student motivation plays an important role in the teaching and learning process in general
educational settings as well as in physical education Practical class. The purpose of this
research was to assess Motivation of Female Students in Learning Physical Education
Practical Class: the Case of Selected Shino secondary and Preparatory School, Meta Robi
Wereda West Shewa Zone Oromia Regional State. Both primary and secondary data
collection techniques were used for this study. The total population of the study was 579.
From these 158 female students were selected by using proportionate stratified sampling
techniques. In addition, 4 school administrators and 2 physical education teachers were
selected purposefully for this study. The researcher took data from 2 schools. Those are Shino
Secondary School and Shino preparatory school. Both qualitative and quantitative data
analysis techniques were used for the study. Qualitative data were analyzed through
descriptions and interpretations where as quantitative data were analyzed through descriptive
method using frequencies, percentages and tables. The finding of the study showed that the
majority of female students in the sampled schools have less interest and motivation in
physical education learning practical class is low. Hence, it is recommended that depending
on the findings, parents, physical education teachers, school administration, community, Zone
and Wereda educational bureau should create awareness for female students about the
benefits of participation in physical education practical class. Besides, the study also
recommended that Physical education teachers should also apply student centered teaching
approach in order to motivate female students in physical education practical class.
