dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the practice of Assessment in PE and it is challenges while the Assessment was practiced in the secondary schools at Arero, Dirre and Wachille Waredas in Borena Zone in Oromia Regional State. Using mixed type of research design, it is attempted to seek out the practice of Assessment in PE class. Semi structured questionnaire for PE teachers as well as students and structured interview for school s principals. The total population of the study was 3600. The data were distributed and collected from 360 students and 8 PE teachers and also interviewed 12 principals of the schools. In the selection of the sample population purposively for PE teacher, school principals and probability random sampling were used for the students. The main instrument of data collection was questionnaires and interview and also observassion. The data obtained through these tools were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitative analysis data is made using tables of descriptive percentage and interpret through percent value and using wards. Based on analysis major challenges were drawn as the findings of the study shows that the 75% of the Assessment practice in PE was low, those challenges were associated with materials 75%, 75% insufficient guidance and 58.5% instructional time, 62.5% large class size, inadequate equipment’s and facilities, 62.5% teacher related challenges and school environments is also found as a challenges which limits students and PE teacher in involved in the practice of Assessment in PE. Form major findings, the researcher provided possible solution for teacher; students and all concerned bodies. Accordingly, curriculum experts and policy makers should reconsider teaching materials at different levels to make them inclusive, physical education teachers should play great role to minimize the problems encountered the practice of Assessment in Physical Education. Finally the studies suggest the possible solution n for the challenges, changing the perception of the PE teachers and students and create favors able environment, and facilities to be conductive to students and school society en_US
