dc.description.abstract |
The purpose of this study was to find out the implementation and challenges of secondary school
physical education curriculum; The case of Gedeb Asasa high school woredas. Accordingly three
research questions were formulated to guide the study.The participants of this study were five
physical education teachers, three directors, and 200 secondary school students.All the three
secondary schools in Gedeb Asasa woreda were selected purposively. Data from the selected
respondents were gathered using open and close-ended questionnaire, focus group discussion and
observation. Data were analyzed using tables and interpreted using both quantitative and
qualitative analysis method.The basic and common challenges in physical education
implementation of curriculum were lack of sport equipment and facilities 60% ,less academic
competency and fitness of some Physical education teachers 63.33% and school not to plan
intramural and extramural activities regularly to support Physical education implementation of
curriculum 46.55%. The evidence from this study indicated that conducive teaching learning
environment should be fulfilled to enable students achieve the predetermined education objectives,
fulfilling sport equipment and facilities and conducting regular inter-school competitions should be
mandatory. |
