dc.description.abstract |
This study aims sought to investigate the Challenges in the Implementation of Physical
Education Curriculum in Case of Butajira Town Secondary and Preparatory Schools.
Accordingly four research questions were formulated to guide the study. The participants
of this study were 7 Physical Education teachers, 3 directors, 354 secondary and
preparatory school students and 3 curriculum coordinators in Butajira education office.
2 secondary and 1 preparatory schools selected in Butajira town. Data from the selected
respondents were gathered using open and close -ended questionnaire, focused group
discussion and observation. Data were presented using tables and interpreted using
both quantitative and qualitative analysis method/approach. The result revealed that,
there was inadequate physical education resource and working environment. Physical
Education has been taught by using traditional method of teaching. These predetermined
objectives have not been achieved by the learners. There was no any supervisory
activities and academic support for Physical Education and different sport programs.
The basic and common challenges in Physical Education curriculum implementation
were lack of periods, sport equipment and facilities, in Quality and quantity. Schools did
not plan intramural and extramural activities regularly to support Physical Education
curriculum implementation. The evidence from this study indicated that conducive
teaching learning environment should be fulfilled to enable students achieve the
predetermined education objectives. Fulfilling sport equipment and facilities and
conducting regular inter school competitions need to be mandatory . Providing all
curriculum materials, and regular supervision support for quality physical education
and designing a system to assess the attainment of lesson. The teacher should cover
all contents for all grade level in the academic year and the number of periods allotted
should be add to implement the physical education curriculum. |
