In the new global country, knowledge is recognized as one of the most valuable institutional
assets and an important competitive advantage. Therefore knowledge sharing is a key strategy
for institutions, in order to survive and compete effectively in the global education system. The
objective of this study is to evaluate the Assessment of institutional instability on Knowledge
Sharing at Haramaya university undergraduate students and academic staffs and identify steps
that can be taken to create and sustain an environment conducive to knowledge sharing. The
passive institutional stability in HU may affect dissemination of knowledge throughout the
institution. The study was conducted at the three branches of institutions. Researcher used
survey in which quantitative data was collected using questionnaires. The total numbers of
students were registered in all the three branches of institutions in successive 2016/2017/2018
were that 64,556. Using Yamane’s formula a sample size could be calculated and data
collected using questionnaires. All the respective heads of the branches/departments were
interviewed and data analyzed quantitatively using thematic areas. Variables were identified
through literature review and a conceptual framework was developed for this study. Data
analysis was done through descriptive statistical analysis by using Statistical Package for
Social Sciences (SPSS). The analyzed data showed that mobile phones, meetings and sending
mails are frequently used methods for knowledge sharing. The findings show that institutional
instability influences knowledge sharing and the institution that allows communication and
participation is essential for knowledge sharing. Haramaya University management can use
the findings of this study to develop new practices for encouraging and overcoming resistance
to knowledge sharing. This might translate to increased innovation, productivity, opportunity
and competitive advantage. |
