FACTORS AFFECTING QUALITY OF SERVICES IN GAMBELLA TEACHERS’ EDUCATION AND HEALTH SCIENCE COLLEGE LIBRARY,GAMBELLA ETHIOPIA

Abstract

Academic library is considered as the academic services providers and users’ need to have relevant, updated and adequate resources for educational purposes. Services qualities in academic libraries have been surveying quality of services for satisfying information needs of their customers. This study assessed on the factors that affect the quality of the services in GTEHS College Library. The study adopted mixed methods of the research design and selected 201 users from the study population. Data were collected through the use of questionnaire, interview and observation and analysis was made using the interpretation of frequency, percentages, mean average and standard deviation. Study found out that library customers do not use the library services regularly because there is lack of recent materials, limited space, inconvenience opening hours, and lack of ICT facilities. This study also showed that there is no relevant training that has been given to the library staff so far. Moreover, the study disclosed that the college did not give enough support that could facilitate the provision of the library services delivery. That is, in term of planning for the expansion of the library building, evaluation of the workers, regulating the overall services, improving the quality of services, The finding also reveals that users do not satisfy with services they get from GTEHSC library and hence they look other sources of information for fulfilling their needs, it is evident that library facilities and services were limited and so they did not meet 21st century library missions. Thus, the study further recommends that college management should allocate enough budgets to the library and renew their strategies in handling library affairs
