dc.description.abstract The objective of this study was to investigate “Effect of Sodium Bicarbonate Supplementation on Muscular Strength and Coordination exercise performances. Specifically the study was occurred on Durame Town Administration Male Handball Project Players, SNNPR, Ethiopia. Quasi Experimental design was used to investigate the effect of sodium bicarbonate on muscular strength and coordination exercises. For this study, 26 subjects were participated for three months by performing strength and coordination exercises in supplementation and placebo group. The subjects were divided into13 experimental and 13 placebo groups equally. Before the training of muscle strength and coordination exercises, for experimental group 24g of sodium bicarbonate in 250ml water was given 60 minutes before each training day and a placebo of pure water. For both groups Blood pH was measured 5-15 minutes before testing and immediately after the last strength and coordination test. For the whole subjects’ blood sample was registered before pre-ingestion of sodium or water 60 minutes prior to exercise. First day posttest Placebo and Sodium bicarbonate groups measured pH level Mean was 0.02 Significance 0.031 (P<0.05) while end day posttest Placebo and Sodium bicarbonate groups pH level mean 0.05 significance 0.008 on SPSSS software. The t-test result shows that, start of first day post-tests with end of training day post-tests, there was a change in pH level that means enhanced performance in players. Thus research would conclude that, as an ergogenic aid, 0.3g/Kg BM dose of sodium bicarbonate on strength and coordination exercises performance. Also athletes for their ingestion timings to maximize peak pH or blood bicarbonate to effectively maximize the performance effect, the result showed ergogenic benefits of sodium bicarbonate more consistently. en_US
