This study was aimed at investigating the effect of Garlic supplement and Aerobic exercise on
selected Health related Physical Fitness component of 2nd year sport science students of MeU.
Experimental Research design was used. From the total of 51 second year sport science students,
only 24 under graduated 2nd year sport science students were selected based on inclusion and
exclusion criteria. The selected subjects were randomly assigned into 3 groups as Garlic group
(GG=8), Aerobic Exercise group (AEG=8) and Garlic supplement with Aerobic exercise group
(GAEG=8) and purposive sampling was used to select sex and department of the subjects in relation
to the study site.GG consume 1g of garlic supplement per a day and AEG were took aerobic exercise
for 45-60min, GAEG were took both intervention for 12 weeks. Pre-test, during test and post tests
were conducted on all parameters such as 12 minutes run test, push-up and wall squat sit. The data
collected from the subjects were analyzed by using SPSS version 25.0 software package at p< 0.05.
The pretest mean value for 12-min run test result was 44.75, 43.5 and 44.5 for GG, AEG and GAEG
respectively. Lastly the posttest mean value was recorded as 43.652 for GG, 47. 0 for AEG and
52.375 for GAEG. The push up test result on pretest mean value was 28/min for GG, 29.25/min for
AEG and 28.25/min for GAEG while at posttest recorded as 30.5/min for GG, 37.0 /min for AEG
and 45.25/min for GAEG. Pretest wall squat sit test result was 23.37 for GG, 23.37 for AEG and
22.62 for GAEG while at posttest it was 22.0 for GG, 25.25 for AEG and 33.12for GAEG. The result
obtained in this study indicated that there were, a significant improvement in cardiovascular
endurance, muscular endurance and muscular strength on GAEG. So this study concluded that 12-
week Garlic consumption in combined with aerobic exercise was thus showed to improve students’
fitness level of 2nd year sport science students. Based on the finding, Garlic supplement used in
association with aerobic exercise would enhance endurance performance. So, sportsmen’s shall
use it along with aerobic exercise to get visible change. |
