The main purpose of this study was to assess the challenges of female student’s participation in practical classes of physical education in Kokosa Woreda Secondary schools. The samples of the study were taken from Kokosa, Hebano and Hogiso secondary schools. Data was gathered from 3 school directors, 4 physical education teachers and 248 female students. Regarding sampling technique, students were selected by using simple sample technique and physical education teachers and school directors were selected on the bases of availability sampling technique. To this end, descriptive survey method was employed. Questionnaires, interview and observation were the major data gathering instruments used in the study. Frequency and percentages was preferred to analyze the data. The results of the study revealed that the majority of respondents have lack of self-confidence, low perceptions, awareness and lack of interest about physical education practical class participation. Beside this, the other factors identified were instructional materials and facilities were inadequate, house hold duties, psychological and social factors. Based on the findings, conclusions were made and recommendations forwarded to alleviate the existing problems. Accordingly, society should support female students to actively participate in sport, parents should allow their female students to participate in different sport activity, teachers should encourage female students to participate on physical education practical class, female students should feel confident and no fear of boys during practical class, schools fulfill sport equipment in the department and government prepare and facilitate sport competition which involves females. |
