Abstract:
The challenges of physical education to the empowerment of the learners can be tested by the physical, social, and cognitive developments of the learners. This must be supported by the appropriate type and amount of teaching resources. But, the problems of resource scarcity have an challenge in teaching physical education. Teaching learning resource are instructional materials and devices through which teaching and learning are facilitated in schools. There is a gap between the planned resource and its implementation in physical education because of different reasons especially in the teaching and learning classes. Since resource scarcity caused by many factors, the research was designed to examine the challenges of resource scarcity in the secondary schools. The purpose of the study was to investigate the current resource scarcity challenge in teaching physical education in selected secondary schools of Adola Woyyu City in the Guji Zone. To assess the existing relationship between the school physical education and the challenge level of resource scarcity, the study used descriptive survey design using a total of 126 sample subjects. Most of the results showed the challenge of resource scarcity is vast. The teaching learning process of physical education in the sample schools is seriously challenged by the resource scarcity. The instructional materials which are currently found in the sample schools are not enough in amounts and poor in their quality for the proper teaching-learning process of physical education classes. The sample schools are expected to fulfill the required quality instructional materials in enough amounts as much as possible for the proper teaching-learning process of physical education classes.
