Abstract:
The aim of the study was to assess the challenges of applying different teaching
methodology in physical education: The Case of Ginir Woreda some selected secondary
school, bale Zone, Oromia regional state. The study employed a descriptive survey
research design quantitative and qualitative research approach. 4 secondary schools
were selected by Purposive sampling technique, 7 Principals and 8 physical education
teachers were selected by using availability sampling techniques and 334 students were
selected by stratified random sampling techniques. Data for the study was collected
through questionnaires, interviews, and observation. Questionnaires were prepared and
administered to principals, physical education teachers and students. The data collected
through close ended questionnaire were analyzed by using frequency, percentages,
means and standard deviation used by computing the data on SPSS version 20. The data
gathered through open ended questionnaire, interviews and observations were analyzed
qualitatively through narration. The study findings indicate students were learning
without adequate teaching materials, facility and equipments were not comparable with
the students. The school managements were not encouraged to make conducive
classroom, sport field that helps in implementing different teaching methodologies in PE
class and poor organization. The lack of considering in choosing teaching methods such
as the subject matter, instructional objectives, the learner and the environment. The
school principals were less oriented about the implementation of different teaching
methodologies in PE. Besides, there was a gap in the implementation of teaching
methodology in physical education class properly and sport class were major factors that
hinder to implement different teaching methodologies.
