Abstract:
This thesis work aimed at identification of the Pattern of Human Heart Beat Sound Signal Using
Wavelet Analysis. It examined the scales of the sound due to abnormal heart sounds (heart
murmur) to differentiate the normal heart beat from the abnormal heart sounds (systolic and
diastolic murmurs) of age group 15-30 year. The time waveforms, the time-frequency and the
scalogram of each of the sounds were plotted using the data collected from Hiwot Fana Specialized
University Hospital. A continuous wavelet transform (CWT) algorithm is used for analyzing the
abnormality of heart sound signals. The time-frequency contour map is also introduced into
abnormality identification of the pattern of the human heart sound. The contour maps measured
from a normal heart beat sound scalogram contains low energy distribution mostly around 26 to
46Hz. The scalogram of the sound signal from aortic stenosis of heart murmur contains low to
high energy distribution and major sound energy frequency around 21 to 36Hz. The major sound
energy of mitral stenosis heart murmur scalogram was produced around frequency of 21 to 46Hz
with low energy to high energy distribution.
