dc.description.abstract The central issue of this study was to identify the challenges facing the teaching and practice of physical education .The objectives were to; identify the challenges related to resources in the teaching and practice of physical education, find out the problems of teachers and Students towards physical education and determine teachers’ preparedness in handling physical education lessons. This study utilized a descriptive survey design. The descriptive survey provided qualitative information from a representative sample of the sampling frame by the use of an interview guide, and questionnaires. The study was in the KombolchaWoreda high schools to seek teaching physical education, the practices and challenges of physical education in secondary schools. To gather data from 3 school principals,4 physical education teachers,1040 students. In selections of sample population, purposive and random sampling techniques were used. The study was carried out with descriptive survey method and both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used. The main instruments of data collection were questionnaire, interview and observation checklist. Quantitatively analysis is made using table of descriptive percentage and then worded through quantitative. The information obtained from the questionnaire that was analyzed in terms of major finding indicated that there is greater consistency and greater compatibility in the response. The research instruments were piloted in three (3) s schools from Kombolcha Woreda of East Hararghe Zone. Both quantitative and qualitative findings were reported based on the objectives of the study. The findings of the study indicated the three secondary schools physical education period allowed per week not enough, Schools have no sufficient materials for teaching and learning physical education class, Teaching physical education concerned challenges in practical class,There is problem that teaching physical education face practices and challenges in schools specially with problem of learning to ward physical education. It is also recommended that depending on the results of the finding,the schools giving a enoughphysical education period per week or 2 period, schools to fill shortage of materials teaching physical education teaching class especially for practice like play ground,dressingroom,and basic teaching aid and Teachers Minimizing the large number of students class during practical session. Involved in curriculum development, special attention should be given to minimize the over crowdedness of students in the class during practical work. en_US
