Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of resistance training on selected health related physical fitness components of Ude secondary school. Grade 12thA male students were randomly selected for the study from the school . The sample was taken from a population of 55 class students of 35 males and 20 females by census sampling technique., All subjects had divided by simple random technique into 2 equal groups (n=15) control group (CG) and (n=15) experimental group (EG).A purposive sampling techniques was used to select male students from both sex. Their age range was from 18-20 years. EG who performed in 3 days/week for 3-month resistance training and the duration time were 40, 45and 50 minutes with low, moderate and high intensity of training. CG did not perform the selected resistance training of 12 week training and both groups undergone normal physical education class program. Both groups had taken pre and post-testing was taken from the subject. Mean difference of muscular strength was measured by push up test as indicated for CG is 4.87and 24.66 for EG rep/1minutes, mean difference of muscular endurance calculated by sit up test is 5.53 for CG and 15.33 for EG rep/1minutes and mean difference of Flexibility was measured using sit and reach test indicated as 17.8 for EG and 2.4 for CG in centimetre. Consequently, after three months, post test measurement on the same parameters was taken, the difference between the tests were analysed statistically, with paired sample “t” test at P<0.05 to determine the difference between initial and final mean for participant of experimental group. Based on this finding, it can be concluded that resistance training has positive effect on improvement of muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility of male students on experimental group. So null hypothesis was rejected and alternative one was accepted. It is recommended that the coaches, sport teachers, sportsman and all professional should play a great role in changing the skills of participants of health related physical fitness by training.
