Abstract:
The main objective of this study was to identify challenges which affect the participation female students in learning PE practical class in Bora Secondary School Bora District, East Shoa Zone, and Oromia Regional State. To achieve this study, descriptive survey design was used with qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 272 female students from school for sample and availability sampling technique was used to select physical education teachers and school principal whereas questionnaire, observation and interview method of data collection was used to obtain adequate and reliable information. Quantitative data collecting approaches was used for the data that were collected through questionnaire from female students and physical education teachers. Qualitative data collecting approaches was used for the data that were collected through observation from PE teachers and interview from school principals. The data were analyzed through SPSS version 20.0.The findings of this study indicated that lack of sport facility, suitable playground, room for changing clothes, separate latrine house and water service were found to be the significant factor which affects the of female students participation in learning physical education practical class. Additionally, lack of awareness, female students’ didn’t know whether PE practice session contribute a lot for their physical fitness and health development. As a result female students’ took part in PE practical session sometimes which was the main factor for less engagement of female students in physical education practical class. 54.2% female students particpateed some times,48.8 female students participated alwaysin physical exercice. 54.8% respondents respond giving gende education was the possible solution.19.2% changing the attitude was possible and 22% changing the attitude of teachers was possible solution.To this end, schools are recommended to do with stockholders in cooperation, developing the awareness of parents and female students, providing the required facilities, using appropriate time to encourage female students in Physical Education can help for the improvement of female students to participate in Physical Education practical class.
