Abstract:
The main Purpose of this study was to investigate the Effect of chewing khat on cardio
respiratory fitness of Male Football players in Fadis Woreda, East Hararghe Zone, Oromia
Regional State, Ethiopia. Experimentalresearch design was employed in this study. The total
sample of the study was 24 football players. The selected subject were divided into 2 groups
i.e. control group(12) and experiment group(12) by complete purposive sampling techniques.
The experimental group of subjects consuming 8 weeks’ khat with aerobic exercise, three
days per week and duration was 45-minutes while the control group continued with only
aerobic exercises for 8weeks.pretest and posttest were conducted on variables such as 12min
run, sit up and step test each subject was tested at the same time of day. The data obtained
from the subjects were analyzed by statically package of social sciences version 20
software. The pretest mean value for sit up result was 42.5000±4.12311and
43.4167±3.52803for CG and EG respectively. Lastly the posttest mean value was recorded
as 48.0000±2.52262 for CG and 43.0000±3.69274 for EG. The 12mins run test result on
pretest means value was 50.0000+2.86039CG and 49.6667+3.14305for EG while at posttest
recorded as 52.5833±2.67848for CG and 47.9167±3.00092 for EG. Pretest of 3min step test
result was 87.5833±8.64931 for CG and 86.1667±7.95251 for EG while at posttest it was
86.7500±8.02411for CG and 103.2500±7.17477 for EG. From the above evidence the mean
value of sit up and 12min run test was increased on control group (CG) while the mean value
of 3 min step test was decreased. The result obtained in this study indicated that there was a
significant improvement in cardiovascular (vo2 max )and heart rate on control
group(CG).so this study concluded that 8 week chewing khat in combined with aerobic
exercise have negative effect on cardiovascular (vo2 max )and heart rate of the participant.
