Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors af ecting the teaching-leaning of
basketball techniques in Abuna and Gindeberet preparatory schools. The population of the
study includes the range of respondents: from total 585 students 6 PE teachers and 5 school
principals. The Samples were taken from Abuna and Gindeberet preparatory schools in
grade 11th students, 237students or 94 female students and 143 male students were selected
by using systematic simple random sampling techniques. To get supplementary information
for the study area 6 PE teachers, and 5 school principals selected purposefully. The study
was carried out with descriptive survey method and both qualitative and quantitative
approaches were used. Questionnaires, interviews and observation were analyzed like by
using percentage, and frequency. The major finding of 60.49% indicated that the
performance of the teachers’ ability to demonstrate basketball techniques during the lesson
was poor; lack of adequate materials, and facilities also af ected the students’ need of
participation and learning basketball techniques. Physical education teachers’ interactions
with their students were not in admiring level. The major results of PE teacher’s response
were 66.67% that is the Lack of interest, facilities, materials and motivation had also seen as
problems during the lesson and the school principals indicated that 84% It was concluded
that the participation of students with basketball lesson as subject matter were highly af ected
by the shortage of facilities and equipment, attitude of student and teachers. Therefore, based
on the findings of the study, it is recommended to allow students to participate in basketball
techniques activity with the help of physical education teachers. It is also recommended that
the school facilities and materials should be fulfilled to enhance student’s participation with
basketball in addition to the school community help.
