Abstract:
This study mainly aimed at Assessing the Impact of Record Management on Organizational
Performance of Urban Development and Construction Bureau; Supreme Court and Cultural,
Heritage and Tourism Bureau in Harari Regional State of Ethiopia. Thus, to achieve the
objective of this study, the researcher used a descriptive survey research design and the data
were collected from the selected organizations through random sampling techniques, with
the help of questionnaires, personal observation and interview data collection instruments
accompanied by descriptive statistical analysis and one-way-ANOVA test techniques using
SPSS version 20 software. The finding revealed that records management related legislative
framework, policies and procedures available at three selected organization however there
were implementation gap due to lack of uniform guidelines of records managements and
arranging timely training for the employees. More than half of the respondents disagreed on
the availability of the following items: disaster Management, sensitive records classified
according to their level of sensitivity, budget specifically dedicated to records management,
disposal authority, established records disposal schedules, established records retention
schedule and implemented practices to protect vital records in there organization. Inadequate
budget, lack of proper attention from higher official and skilled personnel , inadequate storage
facilities, lack of automated records management program, lack of proper security for records
and lack of clear records management policy, standards and procedures faced in the
management of record. Proper records management leads to timely availability of accurate
information, maintain organization memory, enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the
public service, support administrative decision-making. The study recommended that the
selected organizations should develop and implement clear records management policies,
standards, guidelines and procedures, integrated records management programs, allocate a
dedicated budget for records management, adopt ICTs in the management of records and
records management awareness programs
