dc.description.abstract Back ground: Violation of individual reproductive rights, high maternal and child mortality are the consequence of unmet need for family planning in developing country, especially in rural and pastoral community among currently married women. However; there is limited data concerning magnitude and factors associated with unmet need for family planning. Objective: To assess magnitude of Unmet Need for Family Planning and Associated Factors among Currently Married Women in Midega woreda, Eastern Ethiopia from March 4 to 15, 2019. Methods: Quantitative community based cross sectional study was conducted among 511 currently married women in Midega woreda, eastern Ethiopia. Structured interviewer administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Multi stage sampling and simple random sample technique was used to select study participant. The Collected data were entered to Epi data 3.1 versions and exported to statistical package for social science 22.00 version for analysis and identifying factors associated with unmet need for family planning by using bivariate and multivariate logistic regression. The crude and adjusted odds ratio with 95% of confidence of interval was used to identify strength and direction of association. A P-value less than 0.05 was considered to declare statistically significant in the study. Result: This study revealed that 23.6%, 95% CI: (20.1, 27.6) of currently married women in Midega Woreda had unmet need for family planning, of which 97(19.9%) and 18(3.64%) were for spacing and limiting respectively. Attending Primary education (AOR=0.16, 95%CI: 0.03, 0.83), having children more than five (AOR=1.2, 95%CI: 1.1, 7.2), decided numbers of desired children more than five (AOR=0.07, 95%CI: 0.025, 0.210),women fail to discuss with heath care providers (AOR=4.3, 95%CI: 2.5, 7.9) and negative attitude towards family planning (AOR=2.5, 95%CI: 1.1, 5,9) were significantly associated with unmet need for family planning. Conclusion: Unmet need for family planning in the study area was high, Continuous discussion on family planning with health professional, working on couples’ attitude toward family planning and encouraging of women empower to make decision on fertility desire in general are better to be strengthened. en_US
