dc.description.abstract Biogas is an alternative source of energy that is produced by methanogenic bacteria through the bio-degradation of organic material under anaerobic fermentation of organic matter conditions. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal mix ratio for biogas production from anaerobic digestion of mango fruit peel and cow dung. The experiment was batch operated and daily gas yield from the mixture was monitored for 30 days. The parameters measured were total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), organic carbon. For the experimental design, different mix ratios were adopted for the five digesters employed. . In this case, for the first digester, 100% mango fruit peels(MFP), 2nd digester 70% mango fruit peels(MFP)+30% cow dung (CD), Third digester 50% mango fruit peels(MFP)+50% cow dung (CD), 4th digester 30% mango fruit peels(MFP)+70% cow dung (CD) 5th digester 100%cow dung. Before anaerobic digestion the percentage of total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), organic carbon and carbon nitrogen ratio(C: N) range will be between 20-24, 75-79, 42-46 and 26-29 respectively but After anaerobic digestion the result was within 12-15, 87-89, 38-40 and 20-26 respectively. The experimental data shows a greatest gas output of 11590 ml of gas production in the mix ratio of 70% mango fruit peels(MFP)+30% cow dung (CD), suggesting mix ratio of the two substrates is an optimal mix to yield the highest biogas production. All measured total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), and organic carbon (OC) were significantly varied between before and after anaerobic digestion. Overall results indicate that the biogas yield, volatile solid and total solid reduction can be significantly enhanced when cow dung mixed with mango fruit peels waste. results indicate that the increment of biogas yield organic carbon, VS, and TS reduction can be significantly enhanced when MP and CD were co-digested. en_US
