Biogas is one of the alternative energy sources that can be produced from animal wastes and crop residues through anaerobic digestion. This study evaluated biogas production from corn stalk with chicken manure in solo and mix ratios under anaerobic condition at 38ºC using batch digester. The Parameters studied included total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), pH, organic carbon (%), total nitrogen and C: N ratio. After incubation for 30 days, gas production was measured daily for 30 days using water displacement method. The results showed that all physicho-chemical parameters measured significantly differed between digesters and between before and after anaerobic digestion. Gas production was noticed in all of the substrate types from the first day of digestion experiment to 30th day. Of all digesters, the digester fed with 25% CM and 75% CS resulted in the highest cumulative biogas and the lowest was from 100% CM. This result showed that mix ratio of the two substrates in25% CM and 75% CS is suitable for maximum biogas yield However, the quality of biogas remains to be tested chromatographically in terms of the methane content. |
