Abstract:
Background:Service satisfaction for clients suffering from HIV/AIDS in particular adherence to
regimen and strict follow up schedules play a central role in treatment success. However, it still
remains a challenge to achieve the universal access target of high quality of HIV/AIDS health
care services and optimal patient satisfaction with the hardest hit of HIV epidemics.
Objective: The main objective of this study was to assess the perceived levels of clients’
satisfaction with health services at ART clinic level in Dil Chora hospital from November 24 to
December 24, 2016 in Dire Dawa, Administration, Eastern Ethiopia.
Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted. A total of 406 patients were
involved in the study using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected by structured
questionnaires using an exit face to face interview by four Diploma Nurses. Bivariate and
multivariate analyses were used to determine predictors of patient satisfaction. Crude and adjusted
odds ratio with its 95% Confidence interval; and P value of less than or equal to 0.05 was used as
cut off point for statistical significance.
Results: An overall level of patient satisfaction on ART care service was determined using
median in a Likert scale of 5 (1 very dissatisfied,2 dissatisfied,3 neutral, 4 satisfied and 5
dissatisfied)the median was to be 4 and 81.8% of the respondents were satisfied. Respondents
who had no formal education status [(AOR = 0.33, 95% CI: (0.136, 0.801)], age [(AOR = 0.506,
95% CI: (0.332, 0.772)], were predictors of overall ART service satisfaction status in this study.
Conclusion and Recommendation: This study showed that the current status of the overall
satisfaction of patients towards hospital based ART services found good and comparable with
studies show in other similar studies. Low level of education and being at lower age status were
found to be the major causes of dissatisfaction. Therefore, the hospital management better to
xiv
improve information provision for ART clinic clients catering to the need of people at lower level
educational status and lower age groups.
