Abstract:
mmunization is one of the greatest achievements in public health with the aim
of reducing morbidity, mortality and health care costs. Comparing to its importance childhood
vaccination coverage in developing country like Ethiopia is not satisfactory as different study
shows. Assessing the status of mother‘s satisfaction towards childhood immunization is very
important as a satisfied mother is assumed to use the vaccination and compiles with service
provider for better child health care outcome to the opposite of those unsatisfied. Therefore, it
is important to assess and act on it the supporting factors with immunization services like
mother‘s satisfaction towards vaccination that can increase the utilization of services among
mothers when satisfied and decrease the utilization when unsatisfied.
Methods: A health facility based cross-sectional study was conducted among 407 women who
visits health facilities for child immunization from August 15 to October 15, 2020 in Shenen
Dugo District, Oromia Regional State, Eastern Ethiopia. The study participants were selected
by using systematic random sampling method. Satisfaction score was computed using five
Likert scale, rating (very satisfied =5, satisfied =4, neutral =3, dissatisfied =2 and very
dissatisfied =1) which further categories into Satisfied (if they scored above median) and not satisfied (if they scored below median). All exit interview data were collected via a structured
questionnaire and after cleaned, coded, and entered in to Epi Data v.3.2 then exported to SPSS
v.22 for analysis. Bivariate and multiple logistic regression analysis were done to assess the
association between independent and dependent variables. The level of statistical significance
was declared at p-value less than 0.5.
Result: A total of 392 respondents were interviewed with a response rate of 96.3 %. The
satisfaction level of mothers towards immunization service was reported at 79.1%. Factors
significantly associated with mother‘s immunization satisfaction were age of mother 20-24
(AOR=1.8, 95%CI: 1.05, 3.22), information about vaccination (AOR=0.36, 95% CI: 0.17,
0.78), respectful and politely communication of service providers (AOR=3.99, 95% CI:
1.02,15.7) (Table 9).
Conclusions and recommendations: Even if the level of mother‘s satisfaction towards
childhood immunization of the study area found to be good. However, 21% of participant had
no satisfaction which may resulted in a less utilization of immunization services provided in
health institutions which farther contribute to child morbidity and mortality due to childhoods
vaccine preventable diseases. Therefore, maximize mother‘s satisfaction towards
immunization service and improve vaccination service quality is very important.
