Abstract:
Background
Professional commitment is vital to improve performance of health workers and accessibility to
competent health professionals, it enhances greater employee job satisfaction, acceptance of
organization’s demands, and the meeting of organization’s goals such as high-quality care.
Currently there is shortage of studies examining professional commitment and associated
factors of health workers in dire dawa city administration.
Objective
This study aimed to assess professional commitment and associated factors among Health
worker at public Health facilities in Dire Dawa city administration, Eastern Ethiopia.
Method
Facility based cross-sectional study was conducted among 380 participants. Data were collected
by self-administered structured questionnaires. The Ep-info was used for data entry and Stata
for data analysis. Binary logistic regression, bivariate and multivariate analysis were used to
identify associated factors with level of professional commitment and Hosmer and lame show
for model fitness
Result
The commitment level of professionals among public health facilities in Dire Dawa city
administration, eastern Ethiopia was 64%. Those who paid between 4500-4999 birr were 11
times more likely committed to profession than those who paid 3500-3999 birr [AOR=11, 95%
CI 1, 130], working in health center were 3 times more likely committed to their profession as
compared with hospitals [AOR=3.3, 95%CI=1.4, 7.4], 140 of (36.84%) of health professionals
were satisfied of their professions [AOR, 0.3 95% CI=2, 70] and 217(57.11%) of them has
positive attitude toward organization [AOR 2, 95% CI=1.2, 3.6].
Conclusion and Recommendation
The commitment level of professional among public health facilities in Dire Dawa city
administration, eastern Ethiopia was 64%, so that health administrator, managers and health
bureau should improve on Intervention to enhance health professional satisfaction, working
setup, organizational environment and fair sharing of benefits and related factor.
