dc.description.abstract |
The purpose of this study was to investigate the practices of school based supervision in secondary schools of Oromia Special Zone. Descriptive survey research design was employed that include both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study was carried out in 6 selected secondary schools of Oromia Special Zone surrounding Finfinne using simple random sampling(lottery) techniques. Tools used to collect data were questionnaire (for 107 teachers were selected stratified random sample technique and 30 school based supervisors were selected through available sample technique) and interviews were employed for 6 Woredas education office supervisory representatives and 6 cluster Resource Center supervisors whose were selected through available sample techniques respectively. The data gathered through close ended questionnaire were analyzed using frequency and percentage. Open ended item, interview and document analysis were presented by narrative description. The major findings of the study indicated that the majority of respondents reported that school based supervisors did not practice joint planning of experience sharing within novice and experienced teachers, SBS was failed due to lack necessary knowledge and skills, teachers wrong perception by resisting them to accept comments given by SBS. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that supervisory service was not encouraging to facilitate teaching-learning process. Supervisors did not properly follow the principles of educational supervision. School- based supervisors were ineffective in supervisory performance. Finally, it is recommended that school- based supervisors should follow and exercise principles of educational supervision in the school level. |
