dc.description.abstract This study was aimed to assess the role of leaders in promoting teachers skills development through action research in the case of some selected secondary schools in Kellem Wollega Zone. Depending on research question the study employed descriptive survey research design. To achieve the required purpose, four samples secondary schools were selected questionnaire and semi structure interview were used to collect data. From 188 teachers, 116 samples respondents were selected by simple random sampling to fill the questionnaire and from 10 principals, 6 samples respondents were selected by purposive random sampling and from 3,2 supervisors and 1 expert in Woreda Education Office were selected by random sampling for interview in particular. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean score, standard deviation and grand mean were widely used to analyze the data. The findings show leaders in promoting teachers skills development through in-service training, work shop, seminars to improve profession development through action research knowledge and skills, allocate materials and resources, arrange appropriate teaching load and weekly time schedule for teachers action research activities, leaders create cooperative school environment to enhance communication and discussions among teachers to make the way easier. The study recommended the need of leaders in promoting teachers skills development through action research, leaders should cooperate with all educational stakeholders to arrange in-service training, work shop, seminars and make easier the acute shortage of availability of materials and some challenges like, lack of leaders support, lack of incentive, and poor communication were found to be factors treat hinders teacher’s skills development through action research in the area under consideration. en_US
