dc.description.abstract The purpose of the study was to investigate the opportunities and challenges in inspiration for principalship in Secondary Schools of Bale Zone and the specific objectives were to identify the level of inspiration of academic staff for principalship, To examine the major demotivating factors that affect academic staff inspiration for principalship and to find out different mechanism used to inspire academic staff for principalship in the study area. In doing so, quantitative design was employed. To do this end, the study was conducted in 10 secondary schools selected from Bale Zone by using purposive sampling technique. Twenty six principals, 16 unit leaders, 112 teachers, 5 supervisors or 106(94.64) teachers, 46(97.87%) leaders and 5 woreda education experties used as subject of the study to obtain necessary data. The instrument used to collect data were questioner, document analysis, and semi structured questioner for interview. The data collected through the questionnaire were self administered and analyzed using percentage, mean, and t-test. Result obtained in this study indicated most woreda education office have not given attention to inspire academic staff for principalship position and relating the assessment major demotivating factors like, Salary disproportionate to work load, Lack of career development, Unclear and highly varying, recruitment procedures in the woreda and absence of appreciation or recognition for better performance was very less, majority of the respondents responded as low in they were asked. Coaching, monitoring assistance, giving incentive and rewards for better accomplish the given goal and initiate their moral was necessary. But it did not. It was observed, that the mean score and t-test value on the motivation of the academic staff through short term training, workshops, seminars and problem in in-service professional development to school administration was low. Based on these findings and conclusion the following were recommended of the study: teachers, School leaders, and supervisors should work with education bureau and other concerned body to solve problem related to inspiration of academic staff for principalship position, it is advisable for any responsible bodies to give more attention in motivations and rewarding school academic staff for their best did and the woreda education office, Zonal Education, Regional Education Bureau and Ministry of Education should arrange different training, workshops, seminar, and panel discussion through which staff will develop experience. en_US
