dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to conduct the comparative studies on causes of academic staff turnover intentions and its effect on Universities performance of Ambo and Haramaya Universities .The research question were: what are the causes of academic staff turnover?, what are the effects of academic staff turnover on universities performance? And what was the performance of the universities for the last three years?. The study mainly focused on factors such as socio-demographic factors, job satisfaction, compensation, work environment and leadership style as the causes of academic staff turnover. Stratified sampling and convenient techniques was applied for sampling the population and collecting the data from the sample respectively. From the total population of 1672 academic staffs 143 sample size was taken using Yamane sampling determination formula.143 questionnaires were distributed and only 10 questionnaires were uncollected. Both primary and secondary sources of data were used and the primary data was gathered through questionnaires. The research was designed as descriptive; explanatory research in order to describe some statistical data of the research and to explain the causes and effects in the study. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics such as numbers, percentages and frequency and inferential statistics such as correlations and multiple regression models. Universities performance would be measured by stake holders’ engagement and satisfaction, business entities (source of revenue), quality of education, research and community services, expansion of universities with modern facilities, and number of academic programs. The findings of this study were that the causes of academic staff turnover had a positive relationship with the Universities performance and Turnover had the negative relationship with the Universities performance. This implies that if the Universities are working hard to manage the causes of academic staff turnover, the Universities performance will be improved. en_US
