dc.description.abstract Background: If all women in developing countries who want to avoid unwanted pregnancy and space their children use method staring from postpartum. However, there is not study that assessed the magnitude of postpartum family planning utilization during this period in this study area in Haramaya, district Oromia regional state, Eastern Ethiopia. Objective: - The study aims to assess family planning utilization and associated factors in extended postpartum period among postpartum women in Haramaya district Oromia regional state Eastern Ethiopia 2019 from March 1 thto March 20th,2019. Methods: - A community based cross-sectional study was conducted among 570 women. The study subjects were selected using simple random sampling from five rural kebeles of the districts. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and then the collected data were entered to Epi Data version 3.1 computer software analyzed using spss version 20. Descriptive statistical analysis such as frequency distribution and cross-tabulations were used to summarize and present the data collected. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression model was used to see the associated factors in postpartum family planning utilization. Adjusted odds ratio with 95% confidence interval and p-value < 0.05 was used to declared level of statistical significance. Results : Prevalence of postpartum family planning was 22% 95%CI=(18.6-25.4) -Age < =24 [(AOR= 2.86, 95% CI=(1.03,7.91)] and25-34[(AOR= 3,19, 95% CI=(1.38,7.39)], prim parity [(AOR= 0.33, 95% CI= (0.12,0.90)]an multiparty[(AOR= 0.35, 95% CI= (0.17,0.72) ] history of previous contraceptive [(AOR = 5.16 95% CI=(2.98,8.93)] , place of delivery [(AOR = 2.26, 95% CI=(1.26,4.05)] , discussion with partner [(AOR = 10.79, 95% CI=(5.68,20.53)] and menses returned [(AOR=1.96, 95% CI: 1.12,3.42)] were found to be significant association to postpartum family planning. Conclusion and recommendation-: prevalence of postpartum family planning was low. This study indicated that postpartum women who were age, parity, history of previous contraceptive, place of delivery, discussion with partner and menses return significant association to postpartum family planning. Therefore health extension workers give to Health education for young women and pregnant women about benefit of family planning. en_US
