dc.description.abstract The main purpose of the study was to investigate the existing training and development practices and their effects on employees' performance in Hiwot Fana Haramaya University Specialized Hospital. Both primary and secondary sources of data were used and the primary data was gathered through questionnaire and interviews. Stratified random sampling was employed and data was collected from 138 employees. To achieve the research objectives, mixed research design quantitative and qualitative; with predominantly quantitative method was employed. Descriptive statistics tools such as frequency and percentage were used to analyze the collected data and to point out special features. Inferential statistics such as correlation and linear regression analysis methods were employed to find out whether training schemes have positive effects on the performances of workers. Analysis was carried out using the Statistical package for Social Science SPSS. Results of the correlation analysis and multiple linear regression model showed that there exist positive and significant relationships between employee performance and independent variables i.e. training design, training methods and training facilities. Among others the researcher recommends that the hospital must apply ex-post analysis in order to assess the effectiveness of the training program by measuring the trainees’ performance before and after training. en_US
