dc.description.abstract The main purposes of this study were to examine the sources and level of energy consumption of households in Hosanna town. Energy is used for various purposes such as for cooking, transportation, employment and lighting activates. This research was carried out through cross-sectional survey design and mainly based on data collected through questionnaires and interview. Target households of survey study were 1020 households, out of these 279 sample respondents were selected from target households by Kothari formula and also simple random method was used to select households within study area, but energy sources were selected purposively. The main consuming sector is residential and this sector requires energy for cooking and lighting purposes. Analysis of the survey data shows that the different energy sources are commonly used by each individual sample households for day to day household energy requirement such as traditional and modern energy sources. The consumption of energy sources and amount of energy is consumed by households depend on independent variable. The eight (8) independent variables affected household’s energy consumption positively negatively and significantly. The majority of the respondents (85%) indicated that they spent between Birr 85ETB and 650ETB per month for the purchase of energy. All respondents of 279(100%) are highly demand of electricity and 75% of households can get electricity from Ethiopian electric power corporation in Hosanna district per in a year. Finally, it was processed and analyzed by (SPSS) version 20, STAT software and the other statistical methods including descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The descriptive and inferential statistical tools such as; mean, percentage, correlation and multiple regressions were used to analyze collected data. The result of descriptive analyzes indicates that the main body of the data are made using different data presentation techniques such as mean, tables, and pictures. Although, based on a finding of regression analysis result, except Gender, Marital status and Supply of electricity which is insignificant effect on energy consumption of households with p value > 0.05,the remaining Independent variables had relatively strong significant and direct effect on energy consumption of households with p value <0.05. The further studies should be carried out with other use another alternative energy sources and uses of larger sample sizes should be better energy is consumed in households. en_US
