dc.description.abstract Background: Intestinal obstruction occurs when the normal flow of intestinal contents is interrupted.. The causes of intestinal obstruction differ not only from country to country but also with in the different regions of the same country. Several factors contribute to poor management outcomes in the case of intestinal obstruction Objective: Objective of the study is to find out the various common cause of intestinal obstruction, management outcomes and associated factors of intestinal obstruction in Gelemso General Hospital, from April 1st 2015 to March 31 , 2018. Method: Hospital based cross sectional retrospective study was conducted on384 patients by using simple random sampling technique on secony data from, medical charts of patients admitted with intestinal obstruction from April, 1,2016–March 31 2018 Collected data was entered to Epi data ver 3.1and analyzed using statistical software package (SPSS ver 22 ). Both discritive and analytical analysis were employed. The study was conduted from July 20─25∕2018. Result: The result of the study showed that the most leading causes of intestinal obstruction is Small bowl Volvulus107(27%) , followed by adhesion 89(23%) , sigmoid Volvulus 86(22%), hernia52(13.5) and intussusceptions 41(10.7%) occupied third ,fourth ,and fifth position respectively 30(7.8%) patients developed Unfavourable management outcomes before discharged from the hospital .Analysis showed the major predictors of management outcome of intestinal obstruction was age greater than fifty years (p-value =0.02), residence (p-value = 0.032), duration of illness (p-value = 0.03),and clinical presentation, and type of procedure Conclusion & Recommendation: The findings indicate that the most common causes of intestinal obstruction was small bowl Volvulus, it identifies that age gr , residence, duration of illness type of procedure and clinical presentation were factors associated with management outcome of intestinal obstruction. Health professionals should increase public awareness on IO and apply early intervention Standard of Procedure, appropriate surgical technique and post operative care with sterile technique en_US
