dc.description.abstract This study investigates A history of the Catholic missionary from its foundation to199. It argued that, though politics was used for maintaining and safeguarding the Catholic mission, Catholicism was introduced into Dobba wereda with the political backing of European states. A history of Catholic missionn is a least studied and confusingly understood, subject. The attitudes held with regard to the motives for the coming of Catholic missionaries and the changing approaches of the missionaries’ shaped the nature of interaction of religious groups throughout its history. The missionary approaches were changed through time and the reaction of the people, likewise, had exhibited multifaceted character. In Dobba wereda, according to this study, conversion to Catholicism did not signify the adoption of a new identity. This research challenges some of the existing believes that draw a uniform picture to the Catholic missionaries’ work in Ethiopia as a whole. Therefore, the thesis could advance the existing knowledge about the subject and it, as well, could be a point of reference for further researches. The result of the research is narrated in clear language and structurally organized both on chronological and thematic basis thereby to make critical analysis of the subject. en_US
