dc.description.abstract Perforations of peptic ulcer is an important cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the world affecting the lives of millions of people in their everyday life. PPUD are the second most common complication of peptic ulcer following bleeding but more common indication for operation than peptic ulcer bleeding. Surgery is the mainstay of management in most patients for perforation of peptic ulcer disease .However research evidence the outcome of treatment and its predictors were lacking including the study area. Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess treatment outcome of perforated peptic ulcer disease and its determinants in patients admitted to Hiwot fana specialized university hospital in Harar from September 2015-september 2020. Method: An instutision based cross sectional study was conducted among randomly selected patient files. All patients who undergo surgery for perforated Peptic ulcer in Hiwot Fana Specialized University Hospital during data collection period was considered as source population .Systematic random sampling technique was used to select participants. Data was collected using pre-tested, structured data abstraction sheet. Data was entered into Epi-Data version 3.1 and exported to STATA version 14.2 for analysis. Univarete and Bivariate analysis was conducted to describe characteristics of study participants in respective to research objective .Binary logistic regression model was used to identify factors associated with outcome variable and odds ratio at 95% confidence interval was used to determine the strength of association among independent variables and the outcome variable ,P-value 0.05 declared as statistical significant. Expected outcome: Significant post treatment morbidity and mortality expected among patients of perforated peptic ulcer disease operated in Hiwot Fana specialized university Hospital . Budget: The estimated cost of the study is 25000.00 birr. en_US
