Abstract:
This study was conducted at shume abo kifleketema,Bahir Dar town of Amhara Regional State
of Ethiopia with general objective of assessing currently existing housing provision challenges
and factors which constraints these services in city. The specific objectives of the study were to
examine the currently existing housing provision to identify factors that constraints housing
provision for urban resident in the city and to assess the impacts of housing provision
challenges in the city. In order to carry out the stated objectives of the research, both primary
and secondary data were collected from 353 sample house hold heads and analyzedsuch as
percentage, tabulation, frequency, and in addition, SPSS were employed to enter the data in
to the computer for analysis. On the average 70 percent of the total households rented
residential units. In addition, majority of the residents were challenged by them were wanted
to move from chance due to shortage of kebele administration or municipality offices houses.
As the result, majority of the residents were forced in privately rented residential units. This is
because of same factors that related to financial constraints, lack of raw material resources,
lack of enough open space and imbalance housing demands and supplies. Therefore, it was
inadequate housing provision in the city. It is important to design the program of houses
emphasis and should take priority that includes allocation of budget and controlling
unplanned growth of urbanization, it is important to design or make effort to attract
involvements of community, private enterprises and NGO’S in housing provision and it is
important the issue of social and economic development of rural areas.
