Abstract:
The study title is the assessment on community participation for quality education in secondary
schools of east harerghe zone. The main objective of this study was to assess the extent of community
participation for quality education in secondary schools of East Hararghe. The researcher employed
descriptive study type of design. Three methods of data collection were used which are
questionnaire, interview, focus and documentary review. Whereby data was analyzed both
qualitatively and quantitatively uses SPSS 20.Questionnaire was the main data gathering instrument
while interviews and document analysis were employed to enrich the data gathered through
questionnaire. The study was conducted in eight secondary schools in the East Hararghe zone of Oromia
Region. The primary sources of data were school leaders, teachers and PTA. A simple random
sampling technique was employed to select teachers. On the other hand, school leaders, and PTA
members were selected using availability sampling. A total of 154 respondents were participated in
the study comprising of 56 school leaders, 90 teachers and 8 PTA members.
Overall, the community participation in the quality education of Secondary school curriculumin the eight
schools studied was found to be low. The roles of the school community in the implementation quality
education are found inadequate. Secondary school quality education needs a shared efforts and
responses from teachers, school leaders and PTAs. It is recommended that partnership and interaction
between community and school in implementing quality education must be built to provide initiative,
responsibility, sensitivity for participation in education and school governance designed to improve
community participation in the quality education of secondary school.
