Abstract:
This study deals with the history of Dadar town From,1871 to1991. Dadar town was one of the
oldest towns in Hararghe area that was founded in 1871 and served as a trade center for Obborra
area early before king Menelik conquest and after conquest served as a garrison town, later
administration and commercial center of Oborra Awraja from 1941-1991. However, this
economic, socio-cultural, and political history of the town is not deeply studied and documented by
professionals’ historians so far. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the history of Dadar
town from 1871 to 1991 in relation to Hararghe. For this study, the historical research method is
utilized. To reconstruct the history of the town both primary and secondary sources were used.
Qualitative data collection methods like an interview (both structured and semi-structured) and
documents reviews have been used. The data collected from various sources have been analyzed
by using qualitative historical data analysis methods. All data gathered are organized and grouped
into specific categories. These data together with oral information were carefully arranged and
crosschecked. Then, the data were analyzed, interpreted, and narrated thematically and
chronologically. It is in this way that the history of Dadar town from 1871-1991 was constructed.
