dc.description.sponsorship The purpose of this study was to examine the practices and challenges of educational management information system informed decision making in selected secondary schools of West Hararge Zone. Mixed approach design was employed to conduct the study. The major tools used for data gathering were questionnaire, interview and document analysis. Data analysis was conducted by using frequency count, percentages, mean average, and standard deviation was used. The study was carried out in five woreda on five secondary schools that was selected by purposive sampling techniques. The information used in the data analysis was obtained from secondary schools selected as sample five supervisors, five principals, five vice principals, five kebele education board, ten parent student teachers association members and Twenty five students council members in the schools. Overall, out of 116 intended respondents (100%) were participated in the study. The result of the study implies that, there was no well established EMIS structure organization in place at all level of education including schools. Data/information was not organized systematically high turnover of educational management information system personnel, less accountability for inaccuracy, unreliable ,irrelevant, incomplete and none valid data transfer was seen in the study. The study revealed that, it needed to be made a decision which was reliable, timely and relevant at schools level. The challenges of identified by educational management information system by respondents were insufficiency of information communication technology infrastructure, lack of technology competency, shortage of skilled human power and poor coordination of the system. Thus it was conclude that, the educational management information system entangled with a set of problems that hinder the proper functioning of its management. Therefore, to overcome these short coming necessary finding,conclusions ,recommendations the implimantation was established and autonomous of structure of educational management information system should up to schools level, organize and put in place the required amount of resources and design educational information policy, motivate p educational management information system ersonnel based on their performance, improve data integration school net program and decentralized softw educational management information system are up to schools level, established data auditing system create awareness through relevant training program en_US
