dc.description.abstract This thesis investigates historical events that took place in Derashe from 1890s to 1991. Primary and secondary sources were consulted. Collected sources were critically evaluated and investigated historical facts were analyzed qualitatively through narrative analysis and presented in written form. The finding indicates that as a result of the incorporation in to the Ethiopian empire Derashe people encountered many new things. Derashe people welcomed Italians as “liberators” from social, economic, political and religious influences of the Shewans. However in post 1941Italians showed their Fascist ruthless exploitative measures until 1941 Derashe People under leadership of Ato Molo Korisha began a rebellion against land policy of Imperial government but they were not successful. In 1974 the military took state power and introduced reforms like Development through Cooperative Campaign and established many new associations including, Peasant, Youth and Women associations and Service cooperatives from awraja to kebele levels of administration. Villegization was other program of military government successful in some areas of Derashe district. Education, health, bank, and postal services were social services introduced during military regime from 1974 to 1991. en_US
